Recreative dives

La Cattedrale - Dive type: Medium - Min depth: 5m, Max depth: 36m

It seems a cave dive, but it isn't. It's more a long rock split, gradually squeezing toward the inner part. On its wall are sponges, parazoanthus and e Rubrum coral bench. But on a closer sight you can see several little eyes: they are shrimps! And if you have luck, it's possible to meet also an interesting cowrie on the top. At the external side lie big riffs, reaching water surface.

Cap Estel - Dive type: Medium - Min depth: 10m, Max depth: 36m

A rock coming out the water surface, will conduct us until a canyon with spectacular parazoanthus, sponges and false coral. Light tricks are really attractive and they are coming from the big rocky walls around, which they can reach 36 m. depth. Here benches of red and yellow coral are standing, hiding lobsters, morays and polyps. Going up until 18 m. we will see a big siphone, concluding itself at 9 m depth., where is allocated a dassies colony. Meeting stone basses here it's very easy.

Cap Martin - Dive type: Medium - Min depth: 12m, Max depth: 36m

Here all the bottom, between Cap Martin and Monaco, is colonized by caulerpa taxifolia, a green seaweed, which seems to be real grassland. We starts diving from 10-15 m. deep, then going down until 22 m. deep, where stands out a wall reaching 36 m. deep, covered by red corals and holding lobsters, polyps, congers, moyras, scorpion fishes and fantastic valenciennes Hypselodoris. It's a wall-dive until a cave, where we begin to rise again. This wall is incredible, since it's positioning exactly at 90°.

Desolation - Dive type: Medium - Min depth: 24m, Max depth: 33m

The anchorage is on a flat bottom at 24 m. Along a side we find a sandy desolated bottom (it gives the title dive); on the other part we have the opposite situation: it's full of life with coral benches, both red and yellow, great accommodation for lobsters and "facchino cancers" (Dromia personata), Ray's breams and anthias. The splits are shelters for polyps, morays, congers, and gurnards. This diving point is particularly known for flabellates and Hypselodoris valenciennesi. Ideal for Underwater photographers.

Mergianine - Dive type: Medium/Difficult - Min depth: 15m, Max depth: 42m

It's on the Cap Martin promontory and it's generally exposed to the current. We sink on a flat completely covered by caulerpa taxifolia, slowly going down until 40 m. It builds up rocky stairs, surrounded by marvellous red coral benches, which gives the dive title, called "le tombant de la gorgogne noire", the black coral wall, inside which the dogfishes leave their eggs. Here happened incredible meeting with lobsters, John Dory fishes and sunfishes.

La Fontana - Dive type: Difficult - Min depth: 24m, Max depth: 36m

It's a very special dive: you "land" on a 24 m deep bottom then you go on among big reefs until 36 m. deep. Here we find an enormous rock split among magnificent red coral benches, from which gushes out fresh water, coming from an undersea closed cave. It's all coloured and the show for your eyes is really exciting. The wall is full of parazoanthus, sponges, and luxuriant corals. Varied nudibranchias species can be easily met, such as Hypselodoris valenciennes, moreover scorpion fishes, polyps, lobsters. A lot of projects has been introduced in the past, trying to use this gushing drinking water, but until now nothing was seriously made. We have anyway on the shoal a lot of human traces about this working attempts.

Pignatun - Dive type: Difficult - Min depth: 35m, Max depth: 43m

Sinking in the blue sea until a sand bottom (35 m), immediately subsided to 43 m deep, with two big rocks. Long see fans branches, various dassies and Ray's breams featured this dive, where it is also easy to meet lobsters, congers, gurnards and sunfishes, but these ones only during summer time.

The Helicopter
Helicopter- Dive type: Medium - Min depth: 30m, Max depth: 35m

It's an English military helicopter named Gazelle, which sank on 9th September 1993. Its length is 9,53 m. and it's still showing all the flight equipment and the registration number. All around are grown red-coloured sea fans, spirografides, sponges, parazoanthus and a marvellous goutweeds branch, known as the "false black coral". Among the rock splits can be found lobsters, conger, morays and gurnards. Here follows an article written by Adrianno Penco ...
